Chaos Daemons
 ]

Creatures of primal malevolence, Daemons are birthed from the accumulated sins and passions of the mortal races, and given form and will by the Dark Gods of Chaos. Invested with the cruel malice of their creators, they will not rest until reality itself is torn asunder and every soul in the galaxy devoured.

Army Rules

The Shadow of Chaos

When daemons pour into realspace, maelstroms of warp energy spill through in their wake. Manifest emotion and unbridled, nightmarish forces twist all that they touch, reshaping the landscape into bizarre forms while tormenting mortal beings to madness. To be embroiled in such tempests is to endure conditions utterly anathema to the fundamental laws of reality, provoking primal terror in even the most emotionless warriors.

If your Army Faction is LEGIONES DAEMONICA, certain areas of the battlefield are considered to be within your army’s Shadow of Chaos, as follows:
  • Your deployment zone is always within your army’s Shadow of Chaos.
  • At the start of any phase, if you control at least half of the objective markers within No Man’s Land, until the end of that phase, No Man’s Land is within your army’s Shadow of Chaos.
  • At the start of any phase, if you control at least half of the objective markers within your opponent’s deployment zone, until the end of that phase, your opponent’s deployment zone is within your army’s Shadow of Chaos.

DAEMONIC MANIFESTATION

While a friendly LEGIONES DAEMONICA unit is within your army’s Shadow of Chaos, each time that unit makes a battle-shock roll, that unit has +1 to that battle-shock roll and, if that roll is successful, one model in that unit heals D3 wounds (if that unit is a BATTLELINE unit and that roll is successful, up to D3 destroyed models (excluding CHARACTER models) can be returned to that unit instead).

DAEMONIC TERROR

While an enemy unit is within your army’s Shadow of Chaos and/or it is within 6" of one or more BLOODTHIRSTER, GREAT UNCLEAN ONE, KAIROS FATEWEAVER, KEEPER OF SECRETS, LORD OF CHANGE, ROTIGUS, SHALAXI HELBANE or SKARBRAND units from your army, each time that unit takes a Battle-shock test, subtract 1 from that test and, if that test is failed, that enemy unit suffers D3 mortal wounds.

Daemonic Pact

When the mortal servants of the Dark Gods march to war, the most favoured may find daemonic entities accompanying them.

If every model from your army has the CHAOS KNIGHTS or HERETIC ASTARTES keyword, you can include LEGIONES DAEMONICA units in your army, even if they do not have the Faction keyword you selected in the Select Army Faction step. The combined points cost of such units you can include depends on your battle size, as shown below.

IncursionUp to 250 pts
Strike ForceUp to 500 pts
OnslaughtUp to 750 pts

None of these models can be your WARLORD, and they cannot be given Enhancements.

In addition, for each of the following keywords, the number of non-BATTLELINE units with that keyword you include in this way cannot be greater than the number of BATTLELINE units with that keyword you include in this way:
  • KHORNE
  • TZEENTCH
  • NURGLE
  • SLAANESH

Daemonic Incursion3DP

Detachment Rule

If your Army Faction is LEGIONES DAEMONICA, you can use this Daemonic Incursion Detachment rule.

Warp Rifts

Daemonic legions tear through the fabric of realspace, malevolent entities flickering into being like phantasms from a nightmare. Worse still, as terror and panic take hold of their victims, so their mortal souls become ever easier prey for the entities pouring through from the warp.

Each time a LEGIONES DAEMONICA unit from your army is set up on the battlefield using the Deep Strike ability, if it is set up wholly within your army’s Shadow of Chaos, and/or if it is set up wholly within 6" of one or more friendly BLOODTHIRSTER, GREAT UNCLEAN ONE, KAIROS FATEWEAVER, KEEPER OF SECRETS, LORD OF CHANGE, ROTIGUS, SHALAXI HELBANE or SKARBRAND units with which it shares the KHORNE, TZEENTCH, NURGLE or SLAANESH keyword, it can be set up anywhere that is more than 6" horizontally away from all enemy models, instead of more than 8".

Stratagems

If you are using the Daemonic Incursion Detachment rule, you can use these Daemonic Incursion Stratagems.

CORRUPT REALSPACE
1CP
Demonic Incursion – Strategic Ploy Stratagem
Daemons instinctively feel the need to despoil and corrupt every corner of realspace, the better to sustain their otherworldly forms.
WHEN: Start of any Command phase.

TARGET: One LEGIONES DAEMONICA unit from your army that is within range of an objective marker you control.

EFFECT: That objective marker is said to be Corrupted and remains under your control, even if you have no models within range of it, until your opponent controls it at the start or end of any turn. In addition, while an objective marker is Corrupted and under your control, the area of the battlefield within 6" of that objective marker is considered to be within your army’s Shadow of Chaos.
WARP SURGE
1CP
Demonic Incursion – Strategic Ploy Stratagem
The winds of the warp blow strong, invigorating daemonkind and lending them supernatural speed and ferocity.
WHEN: Your Charge phase.

TARGET: One LEGIONES DAEMONICA unit from your army that is within your army’s Shadow of Chaos.

EFFECT: Until the end of the phase, your unit is eligible to declare a charge in a turn in which it Advanced.
DRAUGHT OF TERROR
1CP
Demonic Incursion – Battle Tactic Stratagem
The swelling fear of their mortal prey serves as an intoxicating elixir to the daemonic followers, each draught invigorating their forms with deadly power.
WHEN: Your Shooting phase or the Fight phase.

TARGET: One LEGIONES DAEMONICA unit from your army that has not been selected to shoot or fight this phase.

EFFECT: Until the end of the phase, improve the Armour Penetration characteristic of weapons equipped by models in that unit by 1. In addition, until the end of the phase, each time such a weapon targets a unit that is Battle-shocked, you can re-roll the Wound roll.
DENIZENS OF THE WARP
1CP
Demonic Incursion – Strategic Ploy Stratagem
Ever lurking in the warp, daemons will wait until the barriers between realms thin before tearing their way into realspace.
WHEN: Your Movement phase.

TARGET: One LEGIONES DAEMONICA unit from your army that is arriving using the Deep Strike ability this phase.

EFFECT: Your unit can be set up anywhere on the battlefield that is more than 6" horizontally away from all enemy models.
THE REALM OF CHAOS
1CP
Demonic Incursion – Battle Tactic Stratagem
When the energies of the warp bleed into realspace, the Legiones Daemonica can rip open portals in seeming thin-air, returning to their hellscapes only to rematerialise amidst their foes a heartbeat later.
WHEN: End of your opponent’s turn.

TARGET: Up to two LEGIONES DAEMONICA units from your army that are within your army’s Shadow of Chaos, or one other LEGIONES DAEMONICA unit from your army.

EFFECT:

RESTRICTION: You cannot target units that are within Engagement Range of one or more enemy units with this Stratagem.
DAEMONIC INVULNERABILITY
1CP
Demonic Incursion – Battle Tactic Stratagem
Daemons are madness given form. Their very bodies are fashioned from the stuff of the warp, and are difficult to destroy through conventional means.
WHEN: Your opponent’s Shooting phase, just after an enemy unit has selected its targets.

TARGET: One LEGIONES DAEMONICA unit from your army that was selected as the target of one or more of that enemy unit’s attacks.

EFFECT: Until the end of the phase, each time an invulnerable saving throw is made for a model in your unit, re-roll a saving throw of 1.

Enhancements

If you are using the Daemonic Incursion Detachment rule, you can use these Daemonic Incursion Enhancements.

  • The Endless Gift 30 pts

Only the most accomplished plague daemons are granted the Endless Gift. A disease of unutterable malignancy and repulsive beneficence, it changes form constantly from plague to infestation to malaise. The one constant is its ability to reknit its sufferer’s corporeal form from even the most catastrophic of wounds. One moment, infernal bacteria may multiply like wildfire until their gelid mass fills a fleshy rent with fresh daemon-flesh. The next, pestilential vapours may billow from the daemon’s yawning maw, veiling its ravaged bulk before tattering away to reveal a form healed of its recent hurts.

NURGLE LEGIONES DAEMONICA model only. The bearer has the Feel No Pain 5+ ability.

Shadow Legion2DP

Detachment Rule

KEYWORDS
BE’LAKOR and HERETIC ASTARTES units from your army gain the SHADOW LEGION and UNDIVIDED keywords.

LEGIONES DAEMONICA units from your army gain the SHADOW LEGION keyword.

If your Army Faction is LEGIONES DAEMONICA, you can use this Shadow Legion Detachment rule.

First Prince of Chaos

Elevated to the status of Daemon Prince by the combined might of the four Dark Gods of Chaos, Be’lakor exudes unimaginable power.

Units from your army have the relevant abilities presented below.

GLOAM ROT

Borne upon the gloaming wisp of Be’lakor’s shadow, this debilitating curse atrophies muscle and withers flesh, greatly weakening its victims.

SHADOW LEGION NURGLE units only. Each time an attack targets this unit, if the Strength characteristic of that attack is greater than this unit’s Toughness characteristic, subtract 1 from the Wound roll.

DISCIPLES OF BE’LAKOR

Be’lakor’s immortal ego draws into his orbit those as yet unclaimed by any one Chaos God. Their hate-filled pacts are made to the entire fell pantheon, and the dangerous boons they receive see them plunged along paths of perpetual night straight into the enemy’s midst.

SHADOW LEGION UNDIVIDED units only.

  • This unit has the Dark Pacts army rule, and can use it as described in Codex: Chaos Space Marines, even though your Army Faction is not HERETIC ASTARTES. If this unit is BE’LAKOR, it automatically passes the Leadership test required for Dark Pacts.
  • SHADOW LEGION HERETIC ASTARTES models in this unit have the Deep Strike ability.

Stratagems

If you are using the Shadow Legion Detachment rule, you can use these Shadow Legion Stratagems.

SPITEFUL DEMISE
1CP
Shadow Legion – Strategic Ploy Stratagem
Malevolent to the last, Be’lakor’s thralls expend their final reserves of mortal strength and empyric might in an act of vengeance, unleashing torrents of killing energy in all directions.
WHEN: Any phase, just after a SHADOW LEGION unit from your army is destroyed, before removing the last model in that unit from the battlefield and before rolling any dice for the Deadly Demise ability.

TARGET: That SHADOW LEGION unit. You can use this Stratagem on that unit even though it was just destroyed.

EFFECT: Roll one D6 for each enemy unit that is within Engagement Range of the last model in your unit, adding 2 to the result if your unit has the SLAANESH keyword: on a 4-5, that enemy unit suffers D3 mortal wounds; on a 6+, that enemy unit suffers 3 mortal wounds.
CHANNELLED WRATH
1CP
Shadow Legion – Strategic Ploy Stratagem
Khorne may not care whence the blood flows, but Be’lakor is more discerning. He directs his slaughter-crazed followers to strike the most pressing targets with all their infernal fury.
WHEN: Fight phase.

TARGET: One SHADOW LEGION unit from your army that has not been selected to fight this phase.

EFFECT: Until the end of the phase, melee weapons equipped by models in your unit have the [LANCE] ability. If your unit has the KHORNE keyword, until the end of the phase, improve the Armour Penetration characteristic of those weapons by 1 as well.
DEATH DENIED
1CP
Shadow Legion – Battle Tactic Stratagem
Even death does not free one from Be’lakor’s grasp. Those who disappoint him may be dragged back through the veil, granted one last chance to impress their master or face the full extent of his wrath.
WHEN: Your Command phase.

TARGET: One SHADOW LEGION unit from your army.

EFFECT: One model in your unit regains up to 3 lost wounds. In addition, If your unit has the TZEENTCH keyword, return up to one destroyed model (excluding CHARACTER models) to your unit with its full wounds remaining.

TARGET: Up to one SHADOW LEGION HERETIC ASTARTES unit from your army and up to one SHADOW LEGION LEGIONES DAEMONICA unit from your army. You can only select units that arrived from Reserves this turn.

EFFECT: Until the end of the phase, weapons equipped by models in your selected units have the [IGNORES COVER] ability.
SHADE PATH
2CP

A chill penumbra settles over the oncoming foe. Those that manage to cut their way through the blanket of twilight find themselves seized with terror as the darkness parts and the horrific nature of their enemy is revealed.
WHEN: Start of your opponent's Charge phase.

TARGET: One friendly SHADOW LEGION unit.

EFFECT: Select one visible enemy unit within 12" of your unit. When that enemy unit declares a charge, that enemy unit has -1 to charge rolls. If your unit has NURGLE, that enemy unit must make a battle-shock roll.
BINDING SHADOW
1CP
Shadow Legion – Strategic Ploy Stratagem
Bound by coils of umbral energy, mortal and daemonic followers are swept up in Be’lakor’s cloak of shadows as pawns returned to their master’s hand.

Enhancements

If you are using the Shadow Legion Detachment rule, you can use these Shadow Legion Enhancements.

  • Leaping Shadows 25 pts

Seen only in flashes, this warrior traverses the darkness with supernatural speed and stealth, emerging where least expected.

SHADOW LEGION model only. Models in the bearer’s unit have the Scouts 9" ability.

  • Mantle of Gloom (Aura) 20 pts

This warrior is mantled in the dread energies of the immaterium. With but a thought, they can extrude from their gloaming mantle coils of grasping darkness, the chill touch of which is enough to erode the confidence of even the mightiest champion.

SHADOW LEGION model only. While an enemy unit is within Engagement Range of the bearer’s unit, subtract 1 from the Objective Control characteristic of models in that enemy unit.

  • Fade to Darkness 30 pts

Having slaughtered their prey, this thrall of the Dark Master opens a twilit gate, returning to the gloom and preparing for their next assault.

SHADOW LEGION model only. At the end of the Fight phase, if the bearer’s unit destroyed one or more enemy units this phase and is not within Engagement Range of one or more enemy units, you can remove the bearer’s unit from the battlefield and place it into Strategic Reserves.

  • Malice Made Manifest 25 pts

This champion of Chaos weaponises their own twisted and blackened spirit, projecting talons wrought of concentrated madness and fury that rake through mind, body and soul.

SHADOW LEGION model only. At the start of the Fight phase, select one enemy unit within Engagement Range of the bearer’s unit and roll one D6: on a 2-5, that enemy unit suffers D3 mortal wounds; on a 6, that enemy unit suffers 3 mortal wounds.

Blood Legion2DP

The daemon legions of Khorne burst into realspace like blood from an artery. Bloodcrushers pound the ground as they lead the charge, slamming into the enemy lines with avalanche force. Behind them come snarling Flesh Hounds and gore-slick Bloodletters, the bellow of brazen war horns sounding their massed charge. Through the clangour of blades and screams, a new sound cuts the air as flaming skulls whistle down to explode amongst the enemy, spat from the maws of Skull Cannons to inflict maximum slaughter. Then, the dark shadow of outstretched wings spreads over the foe. Roaring bloody murder, the Bloodthirsters of Khorne slam down from on high to unleash carnage beyond the imaginings of mortal warriors. As severed heads tumble and blood falls like monsoon rain, crimson doom engulfs the enemy altogether.

Detachment Rule

Murdercall

The daemons of Khorne are physical manifestations of rage, hate and the desperate need to shed blood. For as long as their physical forms remain in realspace, they will never cease their murderous rampage.

In your opponent's movement phase, each time an enemy unit (excluding AIRCRAFT) ends a move within 8" of one or more LEGIONES DAEMONICA KHORNE units from your army, one of those LEGIONES DAEMONICA KHORNE units can make a surge move of up to D6".

Blood Tainted

Lifeblood spilt by the daemons of Khorne is tainted by their infernal touch, staining the ground dark with murder.

At the end of a phase in which a LEGIONES DAEMONICA KHORNE unit from your army destroyed an enemy unit that was within range of an objective marker at the start of the phase, if your unit has a higher Level of Control over that objective marker, that objective marker remains under your control until your opponent’s Level of Control over that objective marker is greater than yours at the end of a phase.

Enhancements

  • Slaughterthirst (Aura) 25 pts

This servant of Khorne is a walking nexus of bloodthirst, its mere presence whetting the keen edges of daemonic blades and appetites alike for slaughter.

  • Fury’s Cage 20 pts

The Bloodthirster bound within this weapon offers the wielder immense power but seeks every way to turn its towering wrath upon its jailer.

LEGIONES DAEMONICA KHORNE MONSTER model only. Each time the bearer is selected to fight, it can use this Enhancement. If it does, the bearer suffers D3+1 mortal wounds, and until the end of the phase, each time it makes an attack, you can re-roll the Hit roll and you can re-roll the Wound roll.

  • Brazenmaw 15 pts

This daemon’s maw and throat are forged from burning brass, transforming its war cries into a deafening clarion that calls the Blood Legion to war.

LEGIONES DAEMONICA KHORNE model only. Add 2 to Charge rolls made for the bearer’s unit.

  • Gateway Unto Damnation 10 pts

Concealed within this daemon’s form is a portal into the depths of Khorne’s realm. Anointed with gore and thrown wide by the daemon’s corporeal demise, it expands like a bloody singularity to drag everything in reach into the screaming maelstrom of the Warp.

LEGIONES DAEMONICA KHORNE MONSTER model only. The bearer’s Deadly Demise ability inflicts mortal wounds on a D6 roll of 2+ instead of on a 6. In addition, if the bearer has destroyed one or more enemy units this battle, the bearer has the Deadly Demise D3+3 ability, instead of any other Deadly Demise ability on its datasheet.

Stratagems

WRATH UNDENIABLE
1CP
Blood Legion – Strategic Ploy Stratagem
Even the banishing blow is often not enough to prevent the daemons of Khorne from lashing out to take bloody vengeance as they discorporate.
WHEN: Fight phase, just after an enemy unit has selected its targets.

TARGET: One LEGIONES DAEMONICA KHORNE unit from your army that was selected as the target of one or more of the attacking unit’s attacks.

EFFECT: Until the end of the phase, each time a model in your unit is destroyed by a melee attack, if that model has not fought this phase, roll one D6: on a 4+, do not remove the destroyed model from play; it can fight after the attacking unit has finished making its attacks, and is then removed from play.
GORE‑HUNGRY ONSLAUGHT
1CP
Blood Legion – Strategic Ploy Stratagem
The manifest will to run down and slaughter their prey allows the daemons of Khorne to surge through physical barriers as though they did not exist, falling upon their victims like bloody phantasms.
WHEN: Your Movement phase or your Charge phase.

TARGET: One LEGIONES DAEMONICA KHORNE unit from your army.

EFFECT: Until the end of the phase, each time a model in your unit makes a move, it can move through terrain features.
SKULLS BEGET BLOOD
1CP
Blood Legion – Strategic Ploy Stratagem
Torn from the wet and ragged necks of worthy mortal champions, these skulls blaze with balefire as the daemons of Khorne heft and hurl them. They explode amongst the foe to shed more blood for the Blood God.
WHEN: Your Shooting phase.

TARGET: One LEGIONES DAEMONICA KHORNE INFANTRY or LEGIONES DAEMONICA KHORNE MOUNTED unit from your army (excluding units that Fell Back this turn) that is not within Engagement Range of one or more enemy units.

BLOOD BEGETS SKULLS
1CP
Blood Legion – Strategic Ploy Stratagem
The iron reek of mortal blood pulsing through living veins fires the unnatural senses of Khorne’s daemons, drawing them on all the swifter to tear, slay, and hack skulls from necks for mighty Khorne.
WHEN: Your Charge phase.

TARGET: One LEGIONES DAEMONICA KHORNE unit from your army that has not been selected to charge this phase.

EFFECT: Until the end of the phase, your unit is eligible to declare a charge in a turn in which it Advanced.
FOOLS’ FLIGHT
2CP
Blood Legion – Strategic Ploy Stratagem
Khorne’s daemons know only hatred and contempt for those who flee from combat and will distort reality itself to keep such cowards trapped in the endless battle they sought to escape.
WHEN: Your opponent’s Movement phase, when an enemy unit ends a fall-back move.

TARGET: One friendly unengaged LEGIONES DAEMONICA KHORNE unit that is within 6" of that enemy unit.

EFFECT: Declare a charge with your unit. When selecting charge targets, you can only select enemy units that made a fall-back move this phase and are within the maximum distance.
SHEATHED IN BRASS
1CP
Blood Legion – Battle Tactic Stratagem
The scorn of these daemons for the blasts and blades of the weakling foe manifests as flowing brass armour that enfolds their corporeal forms and denies all but the most dolorous blows.
WHEN: Your opponent’s Shooting phase, just after an enemy unit has selected its targets.

TARGET: One LEGIONES DAEMONICA KHORNE unit from your army that was selected as the target of one or more of the attacking unit’s attacks.

EFFECT: Until the end of the phase, models in your unit have a Save characteristic of 3+.

Legion of Excess2DP

The legions of Slaanesh surge into battle like a blood-spattered carnival run mad. It is a revel where every swathe of diaphanous silk is braided with screaming souls, and every beautiful smile stretches into a needle-fanged leer of cruellest hunger. The presence of these entities is enough to drive mortals mad as the horrific evidence of their eyes wars with forbidden desire welling inside them like bile. Engulfed in intoxicating mists, they struggle to raise weapons against Daemonettes and Fiends whose every caress bears a razor’s edge. Wailing in blissful torment, they drop to their knees before towering Keepers of Secrets, pleading for gifts of agony the daemons gladly dole out. Willingly, they hurl themselves beneath the hooves of Seekers and the threshing blades of Hellflayers. Against such insidious foes, what hope of victory can there be?

Detachment Rule

Beguiling Aura

The daemons of the Dark Prince can bewitch the minds of their foes, appearing in one moment as their true and nightmarish selves and in the next as the object of their foes’ most forbidden desires or devoted affections. Enemies are left foundering and bewildered as the daemons weave their sinuous dances around them and trill their nerve-shredding siren songs.

LEGIONES DAEMONICA SLAANESH units from your army are eligible to declare a charge in a turn in which they Fell Back.

Seductive Gambit

Temptation is a deadly weapon in the arsenal of the daemons of Slaanesh. To tease warriors’ pride with visions of martial glory or to lure the deluded and desperate into a bladed embrace, they delight in dangling themselves like bait or feigning helpless weakness, then striking with savage release at their overextended foes.

LEGIONES DAEMONICA SLAANESH units from your army have the following ability:

Seductive Gambit: Each time this unit ends a Charge move, you can declare it will perform a Seductive Gambit. If you do, until the end of the turn, this unit does not have the Fights First ability, but instead, each time a model in this unit makes an attack, you can re-roll the Hit roll and you can re-roll a Wound roll of 1.

Enhancements

  • False Majesty (Aura) 30 pts

Dripping poisonous finery and stalking across the battlefield with regal arrogance, this daemon evokes in its fellows the jealous need to outshine its magnificence.

LEGIONES DAEMONICA SLAANESH model only. While a friendly LEGIONES DAEMONICA SLAANESH unit (excluding MONSTERS) is within 6" of the bearer, each time a model in that unit makes a melee attack, add 1 to the Wound roll.

  • Dreaming Crown (Aura) 30 pts

This gilded circlet fills mortal minds with waking dreams potent enough to intoxicate and distract even the most disciplined or alien combatants, leaving them easy prey for the daemons of Slaanesh.

LEGIONES DAEMONICA SLAANESH model only. While a friendly LEGIONES DAEMONICA SLAANESH unit (excluding MONSTERS) is within 6" of the bearer, each time a model in that unit makes a melee attack, add 1 to the Hit roll.

  • Avatar of Perfection 15 pts

This entity is the corporeal embodiment of selfish arrogance, fighting best when it fights alone.

LEGIONES DAEMONICA SLAANESH MONSTER model only. At the start of each phase, if there are no other friendly units within 6" of the bearer, you can: re-roll Advance rolls made for the bearer; re-roll Charge rolls made for the bearer; ignore any or all modifiers to its Move characteristic and to any Advance and/or Charge rolls made for the bearer.

  • Soul Glutton 10 pts

This daemon lord guzzles souls, its bloated corporeality reknitting with each fresh morsel.

LEGIONES DAEMONICA SLAANESH MONSTER model only. At the end of the Fight phase, if one or more enemy models were destroyed this phase as a result of one or more of the bearer’s attacks, it can use this Enhancement. If it does, it regains up to D3 lost wounds.

Stratagems

THIEVES OF PAIN

TARGET: That LEGIONES DAEMONICA SLAANESH unit.

EFFECT: Select one other friendly LEGIONES DAEMONICA SLAANESH unit that is within 9" of and visible to your unit. Until the end of the phase, while the selected unit is on the battlefield, each time a model in your unit would lose a wound, inflict 1 mortal wound on the selected unit instead.

This entity causes the battlefield to flicker wildly between the debauched Slaaneshi Warp interstice and the most brutally mundane reality, faster than even supernatural senses can perceive. The result is a psychically devastating barrage of excess and deprivation.
WHEN: Your Command phase.

TARGET: One LEGIONES DAEMONICA SLAANESH MONSTER unit from your army that is on the battlefield.

EFFECT: Each unit on the battlefield that is within your army’s Shadow of Chaos must take a Battle-shock test, subtracting 1 from that test if they are Below Half-strength.

Designer’s Note: This Stratagem forces all friendly and enemy units alike within your army’s Shadow of Chaos to take a Battle-shock test. This can allow a Chaos Daemons player to heal units from their army through the Daemonic Terror army rule, at the risk of causing some of their own units to become Battle-shocked.
PHANTASMAL LONGING
1CP
Legion of Excess – Strategic Ploy Stratagem
Against their wills, enemy combatants find themselves wishing for the daemons of Slaanesh to draw closer. It is child’s play for the daemons of Slaanesh to harness such strong emotions and transform them into manifest reality.
WHEN: Your Movement phase or your Charge phase.

TARGET: One LEGIONES DAEMONICA SLAANESH unit from your army.

EFFECT: Until the end of the phase, each time a model in your unit makes a move, it can move through terrain features.
CAVALCADE OF BLADES
1CP
Legion of Excess – Battle Tactic Stratagem
The cavorting approach of Slaaneshi daemons is hypnotic and enthralling. It is a whirling carousel of eye-searing colours and flashing blades that tempt mortals to reach out with trembling eagerness until they can just reach.
WHEN: Your Charge phase, just after a LEGIONES DAEMONICA SLAANESH unit from your army ends a Charge move.

TARGET: That LEGIONES DAEMONICA SLAANESH unit.

EFFECT: Select one enemy unit within Engagement Range of your unit, then roll one D6 for each model in your unit that is within Engagement Range of that enemy unit, or roll six D6 instead if your unit is a MONSTER unit: for each 4+, that enemy unit suffers 1 mortal wound.
OVERWHELMING EXCESS
1CP
Legion of Excess – Battle Tactic Stratagem
Sensation gushes relentlessly into the overstimulated minds of the enemy until their souls strain fit to burst. Barely able to think or function, they recoil in their desperate need to stem the unstoppable tide.
WHEN: Your opponent’s Shooting phase or the Fight phase, just after an enemy unit has selected its targets.

TARGET: One LEGIONES DAEMONICA SLAANESH unit from your army that was selected as the target of one or more of the attacking unit’s attacks.

EFFECT: Until the end of the phase, each time an attack targets your unit, subtract 1 from the Hit roll.

Plague Legion2DP

One moment, reality is a place of rationality. The next, the veil separating realspace from the Warp strains, then bursts like a fatted boil and from the suppurating rent spill the daemon legions of Nurgle. Despair spreads before them like vomit soaking into pristine silk. Miasmal clouds engulf the foe, causing flesh to blister and slough, metal to fur with rust, and hope itself to rot away into dread misery. Already disoriented and gripped by gloom, the enemy now faces rank upon rank of rotted horrors as Plaguebearers slouch toward them, shepherded by the mountainous bulks of Great Unclean Ones. With tittering tides of Nurglings flowing like sharp-fanged effluent about their legs, Beasts of Nurgle bounding through their lines like living boulders, and malevolent Plague Drones thrumming down from above, the enemy’s nightmare is just beginning.

Detachment Rule

Melancholic Miasma

To fight the daemons of Nurgle is to endure their entropic assaults upon both the physical and spiritual battlefields. The horror of inevitable decay claws at the souls of their victims even as the daemons’ splintered talons rake their flesh, heralding nightmarish putrefaction and impending doom.

While an enemy unit is within 9" of one or more LEGIONES DAEMONICA NURGLE units from your army, that enemy unit is within your army’s Shadow of Chaos. In each player’s Command phase, select one enemy unit within your army’s Shadow of Chaos. That unit must take a Battle-shock test.

Enhancements

  • Cankerblight 15 pts

The mere presence of this corrosive monstrosity is enough to rot the very stuff of reality and all who inhabit it.

LEGIONES DAEMONICA NURGLE model only. Each time an enemy unit (excluding MONSTERS and VEHICLES) that is within 6" of the bearer fails a Battle-shock test, the bearer can use this Enhancement. If it does, one model in that unit is destroyed (chosen by its controlling player). Each time the bearer uses this Enhancement, no mortal wounds are inflicted by your army’s Daemonic Terror rule.

  • Maggot Maws 15 pts

This daemon’s flesh is pocked with foul mouths that mumble curses to rot the minds of all who hear them.

LEGIONES DAEMONICA NURGLE model only. In your Shooting phase, select one enemy unit within 6" of the bearer; that enemy unit must take a Battle-shock test. Then roll one D6: on a 3+, that enemy unit suffers D3 mortal wounds. Each time the bearer uses this Enhancement, no mortal wounds are inflicted by your army’s Daemonic Terror rule.

  • Droning Shroud (Aura) 35 pts

This sentient cowl of daemonic plague flies roars and whirls with cyclonic force, obscuring even the most hulking and bloated daemonic bearer.

LEGIONES DAEMONICA NURGLE MONSTER model only. While a friendly LEGIONES DAEMONICA NURGLE unit is within 6" of the bearer, that unit can only be targeted by a ranged attack if the attacking model is within 18".

  • Font of Spores (Aura) 20 pts

This entity’s foul breath expels clouds of rust pox spores, which gnaw into all they settle upon.

LEGIONES DAEMONICA NURGLE MONSTER model only. While a friendly LEGIONES DAEMONICA NURGLE unit is within 6" of the bearer, improve the Armour Penetration characteristic of weapons equipped by models in that unit by 1.

Stratagems

SEEPING VIRULENCE
1CP
Plague Legion – Battle Tactic Stratagem
Repugnant filth wells from the weapons, gaping maws and open wounds of these daemons, slopping across the foe and causing swift and virulent rot wherever it finds the slightest way in.
WHEN: Fight phase.

TARGET: One LEGIONES DAEMONICA NURGLE unit from your army that has not been selected to fight this phase.

EFFECT: Until the end of the phase, each time a model in that unit makes an attack, an unmodified Hit roll of 5+ scores a Critical Hit.
FEVER VISIONS
1CP
Plague Legion – Battle Tactic Stratagem
A plague of waking nightmares races through the enemy ranks, leaving foes reeling in the grip of nauseating visions that curdle into soul-destroying reality.
WHEN: Your Shooting phase or the Fight phase.

TARGET: One LEGIONES DAEMONICA NURGLE unit from your army that has not been selected to shoot or fight this phase.

EFFECT: Until the end of the phase, each time a model in your unit makes an attack, add 1 to the Hit roll. After your unit has finished making its attacks, select one enemy unit hit by one or more of those attacks; that enemy unit must take a Battle-shock test.
FOETID RESURGENCE
2CP
Plague Legion – Strategic Ploy Stratagem
As the power of the Plague God saturates the battlefield, fresh daemonic life blooms from the septic corpse mulch that bubbles underfoot.
WHEN: Your Command phase.

TARGET: One LEGIONES DAEMONICA NURGLE unit from your army that is on the battlefield.

EFFECT: Return up to 1 destroyed model to your unit (excluding CHARACTER models) or up to D3 destroyed models instead (excluding CHARACTER models) if your unit is a BATTLELINE unit, with their full wounds remaining. If your unit is a MONSTER unit, one model in your unit regains up to D3+1 lost wounds instead.
ROT AND RENEWAL
1CP
Plague Legion – Strategic Ploy Stratagem
Rather than lumber across the battlefield, these daemons rot away to nothing before hatching anew from canker blooms wherever they wish to be.
WHEN: Your Movement phase or your Charge phase.

TARGET: One LEGIONES DAEMONICA NURGLE unit from your army.

EFFECT: Until the end of the phase, each time a model in your unit makes a move, it can move through terrain features.
MURKSHADOWS
1CP
Plague Legion – Battle Tactic Stratagem
With the battlefield swathed in an occluding miasma of unreality, Nurgle’s daemons may loom out of the haze, solidify from amidst thrumming fly clouds or even rise out of the filth without warning
WHEN: Your Movement phase.

TARGET: One LEGIONES DAEMONICA NURGLE INFANTRY unit from your army.

EFFECT: Until the end of the phase, each time your unit makes a Normal move, add 5" to the Move characteristic of models in your unit.
PLAGUE OF WOES
1CP
Plague Legion – Strategic Ploy Stratagem
Even as one band of foes gives in to despair, their sorrows spread like a virus to the minds and souls of others, the enemy’s woes multiplying by the moment.
WHEN: Your opponent’s Command phase, before selecting any targets for the Melancholic Miasma Detachment rule.

TARGET: One LEGIONES DAEMONICA NURGLE unit from your army.

EFFECT: Until the end of the phase, after an enemy unit takes a Battle-shock test as a result of the Melancholic Miasma Detachment rule, select one other enemy unit within 9" of your unit; that enemy unit must take a Battle-shock test.

Scintillating Legion2DP

Capering and cackling in an endless flux of transmogrifying change, the daemonic legions of Tzeentch unleash kaleidoscopic madness upon their enemies. Malevolent Lords of Change robed in sanity-blasting unhues wield raw magic with the ease of breathing. They marshal their bedlam hordes even as they transform screaming mortals into mounds of mutant flesh or set light to reality itself. Pink, Blue and Brimstone Horrors dance amidst the leaping flames, their sorceries unleashed in scintillating bombardments alongside the mutagenic blasts of bounding Flamers. Blade-finned Screamers flit through the skies in spiteful shoals, wheeling around the Burning Chariots that streak into the enemy lines like multicoloured comets, while all around them, reality itself distorts into screaming insanity.

Detachment Rule

Fates in Flux

With every chance for change seized, every new fraying of fate’s weave, the daemons and their foes alike fuel the power of Tzeentch, however inadvertently.

You start the battle with three Flux tokens (we recommend using a dice to track how many Flux tokens you have). You can spend one Flux token just after an Advance roll, Hit roll, Wound roll, Damage roll, saving throw or Hazardous test is made for a LEGIONES DAEMONICA TZEENTCH model or LEGIONES DAEMONICA TZEENTCH unit from your army to re-roll the result of that roll, throw or test. Flux tokens can also be spent to enhance the effect of some Stratagems. Each time you spend a Flux token, reduce the number of Flux tokens you have by one and your opponent gains one Flux token.

Whenever your opponent has one or more Flux tokens, they can spend one Flux token after an Advance roll, Hit roll, Wound roll or saving throw is made for a model or unit from their army, to re-roll the result of that roll or throw. If they do, they reduce the number of Flux tokens they have by one and you gain one Flux token. This is ignored if your opponent has the Fates in Flux Detachment rule.

In your Command phase, if your opponent has one or more Flux tokens, you gain one Flux token.

Designer’s Note: When using fast dice rolling, this rule can be used to spend any number of Flux tokens (up to the amount you have), to re-roll a number of dice up to the amount spent, after rolling multiple rolls or saving throws at once.

Enhancements

  • Inescapable Eye 15 pts

This gem reveals the myriad paths of the future.

LEGIONES DAEMONICA TZEENTCH model only. In your Command phase, if the bearer is on the battlefield, if your opponent has one or more Flux tokens, you gain one additional Flux token.

  • Infernal Puppeteer 20 pts

To this mighty entity, lesser daemons are but prisms through which its power shines.

LEGIONES DAEMONICA TZEENTCH MONSTER model only. In your Shooting phase, when this unit is selected to shoot, while an enemy unit is visible to a friendly LEGIONES DAEMONICA TZEENTCH unit, that enemy unit has +9" detection range until this unit has shot.

  • Neverblade 25 pts

This bizarre daemon weapon makes a mockery of even the most determined defence.

LEGIONES DAEMONICA TZEENTCH MONSTER model only. Improve the Strength characteristic of melee weapons equipped by the bearer by 2, improve the Attacks and Armour Penetration characteristics of melee weapons equipped by the bearer by 1, and each time the bearer makes a melee attack, add 1 to the Hit roll.

  • Improbable Shield (Aura) 30 pts

Complex convolutions of fate wind about this entity.

LEGIONES DAEMONICA TZEENTCH model only. While a friendly LEGIONES DAEMONICA TZEENTCH unit is within 6" of the bearer, models in that unit have the Feel No Pain 4+ ability against Psychic Attacks and mortal wounds.

Stratagems

IMPOSSIBLE ECLIPSE
1CP
Scintillating Legion – Strategic Ploy Stratagem
At the call of this malevolent entity, invisible stellar bodies slide into alignment, plunging the battlefield into momentary twilight, dancing with strange and sorcerous will-o’-the-wisps.
WHEN: Any phase.

TARGET: One LEGIONES DAEMONICA TZEENTCH MONSTER unit from your army that is on the battlefield.

EFFECT: Select No Man’s Land or your opponent’s deployment zone, or spend one Flux token and select both. Until the end of the phase, the selected areas of the battlefield are within your army’s Shadow of Chaos.
PYROGENESIS
1CP
Scintillating Legion – Battle Tactic Stratagem
Warpflame is as changeable as the monsters who wield it, capable of easily burning through ceramite plates or reinforced hulls when desired.
WHEN: Your Shooting phase or the Fight phase.

TARGET: One LEGIONES DAEMONICA TZEENTCH unit from your army that has not been selected to shoot or fight that phase.

EFFECT: Until the end of the phase, add 2 to the Strength characteristic of weapons equipped by models in your unit, or spend one Flux token and add 3 to the Strength characteristic of those weapons and improve the Armour Penetration characteristic of those weapons by 1 instead.
FLICKERING REALITY
1CP
Scintillating Legion – Strategic Ploy Stratagem
The very stuff of reality flickers like a candle flame in a gale, frustrating even the most skilful sworders as they strike at rippling illusions.
WHEN: Fight phase, just after an enemy unit has selected its targets.

TARGET: One LEGIONES DAEMONICA TZEENTCH unit from your army that was selected as the target of one or more of the attacking unit’s attacks.

EFFECT: Roll one D6, then you can spend one Flux token to re-roll the result: until the end of the phase, each time an attack targets your unit, on an unmodified Hit roll (after any re-roll) of that result, the attack sequence ends, even if the original Hit roll would have been a Critical Hit.

Example: If you roll a 2 and choose to spend one Flux token to re-roll the result, and the re-roll is a 6, then until the end of the phase, each time an attack targets your unit, on an unmodified Hit roll of 6 the attack sequence ends, that attack fails to hit and no Critical Hit effects (e.g. Lethal Hits) are resolved.
FATEBORNE NIGHTMARES
1CP
Scintillating Legion – Strategic Ploy Stratagem
Barred doors, reinforced windows, or walls are no barriers to the children of the Warp. They cannot be outrun; they cannot be hidden from; they cannot be stopped.
WHEN: Your Movement phase or your Charge phase.

TARGET: One LEGIONES DAEMONICA TZEENTCH unit from your army.

EFFECT: Until the end of the phase, each time a model in your unit makes a move, it can move through terrain features.
FICKLEFIRE
1CP
Scintillating Legion – Strategic Ploy Stratagem
These daemons care little for who they engulf in their infernal fires, only that destruction and chaos are wrought.
WHEN: Your Shooting phase.

TARGET: One LEGIONES DAEMONICA TZEENTCH unit from your army that is within Engagement Range of one or more enemy units.

EFFECT: Until the end of the phase, enemy units are not considered to be within Engagement Range of your unit for the purposes of selecting targets for, and resolving attacks with, ranged weapons. Until the end of the phase, each time an enemy model is destroyed while its unit is within Engagement Range of your unit, roll one D6: on a 5+, your unit suffers 1 mortal wound after the attacking unit has finished making its attacks.
DELIRIUM UNMADE
1CP
Scintillating Legion – Strategic Ploy Stratagem
Between one heartbeat and the next, the daemons of Tzeentch vanish as though they were never there. Yet this jarring respite will last only long enough for their victims to question their sanity before the onslaught begins anew.
WHEN: End of your opponent’s Fight phase.

TARGET: One LEGIONES DAEMONICA TZEENTCH unit from your army that is not within Engagement Range of one or more enemy units. Alternatively, you can spend one Flux token when you use this Stratagem and target up to two LEGIONES DAEMONICA TZEENTCH units from your army instead (including those within Engagement Range of one or more enemy units).

EFFECT: Remove your units from the battlefield and place them into Strategic Reserves.

PARTING BLOWS
1CP
Daemonic Incursion – Strategic Ploy Stratagem

There can be no hiding from entities that can scent the telltale stuff of souls, that can taste fear and follow trails of desperation, lies and futile hope.

Units from your army with the Shadow of Chaos ability replace that ability with this one.

Enemy units within 7" of this unit are Hunted by it. While an enemy unit is Hunted by this unit:
  • Ranged weapons equipped by models in this unit have the [iGNORES COvER] ability while targeting that enemy unit.
  • Each time this unit declares a charge, it can include that enemy unit as a target of that charge, even if it is not visible to it.

Detachment Rule

Brutal Entrance

Obstructing hatches are smashed open by the rampaging daemons, some simply dissolving into molten metal or bursting apart in blood-wet showers.

Each time a KHORNE LEGIONES DAEMONICA unit from your army opens a Hatchway, until the end of the battle, that Hatchway cannot be closed. In addition, until the end of the turn, each time that unit declares a charge, if every target of that charge is on the opposite side of that Hatchway from your unit, add 1 to the Charge roll.

Enhancements

Worthier Skulls

The skulls of cowards who flee from battle have only so much value, and this entity will let them run in favour of hunting for more courageous prey.

Each time an enemy unit within Engagement Range of the bearer Falls Back, after that unit has moved, if the bearer is not within Engagement Range of one or more enemy units, it can make a Normal move of up to 6".

Unholy Fury

So infused with hatred and warlike wrath is this daemon that it can sustain its corporeal shell through fury alone, even should it be terribly damaged.

If the bearer is destroyed by a melee attack and it has not fought this phase, roll one D6: on a 2+, do not remove it from play. Ure destroyed model can fight after the attacking unit has finished making its attacks, and is then removed from play.

Toxic Miasma

Between the corrosive filth that seeps from these daemons and the clouds of blinding flies that boil around them, foes find themselves crippled by disgust and disorientation.

While an enemy unit is within 3" of one or more NURGLE LEGIONES DAEMONICA units from your army, halve the Move characteristic of models in that unit and subtract 1 from Advance and Charge rolls made for it. When measuring this distance, Walls and closed Hatchways are ignored.

Enhancements

Virulent Corruption

To flee from this daemon is to invite an outbreak of spiritual corruption that rots its screaming victims from their souls outward.

Each time an enemy unit within Engagement Range of the bearer is selected to Fall Back, models in that enemy unit must take Desperate Escape tests as if their unit was Battle-shocked. When doing so, if that enemy unit is also Battle-shocked by other means, subtract 1 from each of those Desperate Escape tests.

  • KHORNE
  • TZEENTCH
  • NURGLE
  • SLAANESH

The LEGIONES DAEMONICA keyword is used in the following Chaos Daemons datasheets:

01.07.01 Battlefield Morale
The morale and organisation of troops can waver and break during battle. This is checked using battle-shock rolls, most commonly in the Command phase. Failing such a roll represents the unit’s courage faltering due to taking casualties or through other disruption, reducing its battlefield effectiveness. Similarly, some rules will require you to check a unit’s readiness by making a leadership roll.
01.07.02 Battle-shock Test
The term Battle-shock test is the same as battle-shock roll.
01.07 Battle-shock Rolls
To make a battle-shock roll for a unit, its controlling player makes a leadership roll for it (see above).
  • If that roll succeeds, that unit does not become battle-shocked.
  • If that roll fails, that unit, and each model in it, is battle-shocked.

While a unit is battle-shocked:
  • The Objective Control (OC) characteristic of all of its models is modified to ‘-’ (02.02).
  • Its controlling player cannot target that unit with stratagems (15).
  • It is not eligible to start an action (16), and any action it has started cannot be completed.

02.02.04 Healing Or Regaining Lost Wounds
When a unit heals or regains a number of wounds, it regains up to that number of lost wounds. For each wound healed or regained, consult the following:
  • If that unit has one or more models that does not have its full wounds remaining, select one of those models; that model regains one lost wound.
  • If all models in that unit have their starting number of wounds, but one or more models from that unit are currently destroyed, revive one of those destroyed models (excluding CHARACTER models), with one wound remaining.
This cannot cause a model to have more wounds remaining than it started the battle with.

If a rule states that a model heals or regains a number of wounds, only that model can regain wounds up to its starting number of wounds. Any excess regained wounds are lost and do not cause a destroyed model from that unit to revive.

The BATTLELINE keyword is used in the following Chaos Daemons datasheets:

05.04.04 Destroyed
Throughout a battle, models will suffer damage, lose wounds and be destroyed. When every model in a unit has been destroyed, that unit is destroyed.

When a model is destroyed, first resolve any rules that are triggered when it is destroyed, then it is removed from the battlefield. If any such rules apply, and if the model was destroyed as the result of an attack, unless otherwise stated, those rules are only resolved and that model is only removed after the attacking unit’s attacks have been resolved. Unless otherwise stated, destroyed models and units cannot use abilities or be selected or targeted by rules.

Some rules only trigger if an enemy model or unit was destroyed by you, or by a model or unit from your army. This means that the enemy model or unit was destroyed by an attack made by a model from your army, or by a player rule you have. Enemy models or units that are destroyed by any other means are not destroyed by you, or by a model or unit from your army.
06.02.01 Normal Damage
Normal Damage is damage that was inflicted on a model as a result of a weapon’s D characteristic, rather than by other means such as mortal wounds. Mortal wounds dealt in addition to normal damage from an attack are part of that same attack.
06.02 Mortal Wounds
Some attacks or rules inflict mortal wounds on units. Each time a unit suffers one or more mortal wounds, its controlling player must resolve the following sequence for each of those mortal wounds, until either all of them have been inflicted or that unit is destroyed:
  1. Select Model: Select one model in that unit by following the first instruction below that applies:

If a non-CHARACTER model in that unit has lost one or more wounds, you must select that model.
Otherwise, if that unit contains one or more non-CHARACTER models, you must select one of those models.
Otherwise, if one or more CHARACTER models in that unit have lost one or more wounds, you must select one of those models.
Otherwise, you must select one CHARACTER model in that unit.

  2. Resolve Damage: The selected model loses 1 wound. If this reduces that model’s remaining wounds to 0, it is destroyed.

MORTAL WOUNDS AND NORMAL DAMAGE
When resolving attack dice, if those attacks inflict a mixture of both mortal wounds and normal damage, resolve all of the normal damage first, then resolve all of the mortal wounds.

06.03 Hazard Rolls
To make a hazard roll for a unit, roll one D6: on a 1-2, that roll fails and that unit suffers 1 mortal wound, or 3 mortal wounds instead if each model in that unit is a MONSTER/VEHICLE model. If more than one hazard roll is required for a unit, make all of those rolls simultaneously.
[HAZARDOUS]24.15

Weapons powered by unstable and dangerous energy sources pose a substantial risk to the wielder and those that stand beside them.

Each time a unit is selected to shoot or selected to fight, after that unit has resolved all of its attacks, make a number of hazard rolls (06.03) for that unit equal to the number of [HAZARDOUS] weapons you selected in the Select Weapons step.
01.02.01 Starting Strength and Half-Strength
The number of models a unit contains at the start of the first battle round is its starting strength. The starting strength of an attached unit is the number of models that unit contains at the start of the first battle round.

Some rules refer to units being below starting strength, or at – or below – half-strength. The meaning of these terms varies depending on a unit’s starting strength, as shown below.

UNIT STRENGTH
STARTING STRENGTH OF 1STARTING STRENGTH OF 2 OR MORE
BELOW STARTING STRENGTHModel’s remaining wounds are less than its W characteristic.Number of remaining models in the unit is less than its starting strength.
AT HALF-STRENGTHModel’s remaining wounds are half of its W characteristic.Number of remaining models in the unit is half of its starting strength.
BELOW HALF-STRENGTHModel’s remaining wounds are less than half of its W characteristic.Number of remaining models in the unit is less than half of its starting strength.

Example: A Captain (1 model) is attached to a unit of Intercessors (5 models). This attached unit has a starting strength of 6. If three Intercessors were destroyed, the unit would be at half-strength. If four Intercessors were destroyed, the unit would be below half-strength. If all of the Intercessors were destroyed, the remaining Captain would be below half-strength, despite having his full wounds remaining.

SOME UNITS CANNOT BE AT HALF-STRENGTH
If a model’s W characteristic or a unit’s starting strength cannot be evenly divided in half, that model or unit cannot be at half-strength (but can be below half-strength as described above).
Warp Rifts
Daemonic Incursion Detachment

01.05.01 Automatically Successful/Passes/Hits/Wounds
When a dice roll or test is automatically successful or automatically passes/hits/wounds, do not roll the dice and instead move to the next step of the sequence for that roll as if the required result had been rolled. Any rules that take effect on a particular dice result or roll result do not take effect.

Example: If a hit roll is automatically successful, move straight to the Wound Rolls step for that attack. Such a hit roll is not a critical hit.

Example: If a wound roll is automatically successful, move straight to the Save Rolls step for that attack. Such a wound roll is not a critical wound.

22.05 Plunging Fire
Each time a model makes a ranged attack that targets a visible unit containing one or more models on ground level, if one or more of the following conditions apply, improve the BS characteristic of that attack by 1:
  • The attacking model is on a section of a terrain feature that is 3" or more in height.
  • The attacking model has the TOWERING keyword and the target unit is within 12".

The VEHICLE keyword is used in the following Chaos Daemons datasheets:

The WALKER keyword is used in the following Chaos Daemons datasheets:

Select Units
Select all the units you want to include in your army. You can only select units with your faction keyword and units available to your army faction. Each time you include a unit in your army, it can take any wargear or options it has access to. Note on your army roster the number of models in the unit, any wargear and upgrades it has, and its points value.

Select one CHARACTER unit to be your Warlord’s unit. This must be a unit that has the faction keyword you chose as your army faction. Then select one CHARACTER model in that unit to be your Warlord the supreme leader of your army and make a note of this on your army roster. That model gains the WARLORD keyword. Some units have a rule on their datasheet stating that they must be your WARLORD. If you want to include one or more of these units in your army, you must select one of them to be your WARLORD. Rules that state that a model cannot be your WARLORD take precedence over ones that require it to be your WARLORD.
DEEP STRIKE

Some units make their way to battle via tunnelling, teleportation, high-altitude descent or other extraordinary means that allow them to appear suddenly in the thick of the fighting.

During the Declare Battle Formations step, if every model in a unit has this ability, you can set it up in Reserves instead of setting it up on the battlefield. If you do, in the Reinforcements step of one of your Movement phases you can set up this unit anywhere on the battlefield that is more than 9" horizontally away from all enemy models. If a unit with the Deep Strike ability arrives from Strategic Reserves, the controlling player can choose for that unit to be set up either using the rules for Strategic Reserves or using the Deep Strike ability.
  • Unit can be set up in Reserves instead of on the battlefield.
  • Unit can be set up in your Reinforcements step, more than 9" horizontally away from all enemy models.
[DEVASTATING WOUNDS]24.10

The most potent weapons strike with such power that they make a mockery of armour and can cleave through several foes.

Each time an attack made with a [DEVASTATING WOUNDS] weapon results in a critical wound, the attack sequence for that attack ends and the target unit suffers a number of mortal wounds equal to the D characteristic of that weapon. These are inflicted after resolving any normal damage inflicted by those attacks.

Mortal wounds inflicted by [DEVASTATING WOUNDS] weapons can damage a maximum of one model for each critical wound; any remaining mortal wounds inflicted by that attack are lost.

Example: An attack made with a [DEVASTATING WOUNDS] weapon with a D characteristic of 3 results in a critical wound against an Intercessor Squad, so inflicts 3 mortal wounds. The first 2 mortal wounds are sufficient to destroy 1 Intercessor model, so the remaining mortal wound is lost.
05.02.01 Multiple Toughness Characteristics
When resolving attacks that target a unit in which the models have two or more different T characteristics, follow the first instruction that applies from below:
  • If the target unit is an attached unit, use the highest T characteristic amongst bodyguard models in that unit that are on the battlefield.
  • Use the highest T characteristic amongst models in that unit that are on the battlefield.
Wound Roll
Make one wound roll for each hit by rolling one D6. For each result, check if it fails or is a wound by matching the first condition below that applies:

  • Multiple Toughness Characteristics 05.02.01
INGRESS MOVE20.04
SET-UP DISTANCE: 6"
ELIGIBLE IF: Your unit is in strategic reserves (excluding units that are embarked within TRANSPORTS that are themselves in strategic reserves).
EFFECT: Your unit is set up as described in Set Up (03.02).
BEFORE MOVING: Your unit is set up as described in Set Up (03.02).
WHILE MOVING: Set up your unit wholly within the set-up distance of one or more battlefield edges and more than 8" horizontally from all enemy units.
  • Before the Third Battle Round: While doing so, no models can be set up within your opponent’s deployment zone.
AFTER MOVING: Unless otherwise stated, until the start of the next Charge phase, your unit is not eligible to make any other type of move.
03.04 Engagement
A model’s engagement range is the area of the battlefield within 2" horizontally and 5" vertically of it.
  • While a friendly model is within engagement range of one or more enemy models, those models – and the units they belong to – are engaged with each other.
  • While a unit contains no engaged models, that unit is unengaged.

WHAT IS ENGAGEMENT?
While opposing models are within each other’s engagement range, they are able to fight in vicious melee, so unless they are seeking to make melee attacks, models should keep out of their foes’ reach.

ENGAGEMENT
These two units have at least one model within 2" of the opposing unit, and are therefore engaged with each other.

FEEL NO PAIN24.12

The hardiest warriors refuse to be laid low, even by wounds that should by all rights prove lethal.

This ability always takes the form Feel No Pain X+. Each time a model with this ability would lose a wound, roll one D6: on an X+, that wound is not lost.

13.08 Benefit of Cover
Each time a ranged attack targets a unit, if every model in that unit meets one or more of the following conditions, that unit has the benefit of cover against that attack:
  • That model has the INFANTRY/BEASTS/SWARM keyword and is within a terrain area.
  • That model is not fully visible to the attacking model due to one or more intervening terrain features and/or one or more intervening obscuring terrain areas (see below).

Each time a ranged attack targets a unit that has the benefit of cover against it, worsen the BS characteristic of that attack by 1.
STEALTH24.33

The stealthiest warriors can evade the attentions, and the bullets, of their foes.

If every model in a unit has this ability, each time a ranged attack targets that unit, that unit has the benefit of cover against that attack (13.08).
[LETHAL HITS]24.23

Many deadly weapons can inflict fatal injuries on any foe, no matter their resilience.

Each time an attack made with a [LETHAL HITS] weapon results in a critical hit, you can choose for that attack to automatically wound the target.

Designer’s Note: Choosing to automatically wound the target means that no wound roll is made for that attack. You may decide against this, as it means that attack cannot result in a critical wound and so cannot trigger other abilities such as [DEVASTATING WOUNDS].
Hit Roll
Make one hit roll for each attack dice by rolling one D6. For each result, check if it fails or is a hit by matching the first condition below that applies:

The SHADOW LEGION and NURGLE keywords are used in the following Chaos Daemons datasheets:

06.01 Visibility
Line of sight is used to determine visibility between models. For an observing model to have line of sight, it must be possible to draw an imaginary straight line, 1 mm wide, from any part of that model to any part of the model being observed. This line is the line of sight. While doing so, other models in the observing model’s unit and in the observed model’s unit are ignored.

Other models and units can be either visible or fully visible to the observing model, as shown below. Note that terrain applies additional rules to visibility (13.07).

Model Visible
If any part of another model is visible to the observing model, that model is visible.

Model Fully Visible
If every part of another model that is facing the observing model is visible to the observing model (so the only thing blocking visibility to any part of that other model is that model itself), that model is fully visible.

Unit Visible
If one or more models in a unit are visible to the observing model, that unit is visible.

Unit Fully Visible
If every model in a unit is fully visible to the observing model, that unit is fully visible. When determining this, the observing model can see through other models in that unit.
SNAP SHOOTING15.09
ELIGIBLE IF: As stated in the rule allowing this shooting type.
EFFECT: Your unit shoots as described in Making Attacks (04).
WHILE SHOOTING:
  • You can only target one visible enemy unit within 24" of your unit (and only if it is an eligible target).
  • Each attack only hits on an unmodified hit roll of 6 (irrespective of the attacking weapon’s BS characteristic or any modifiers).
  • You cannot re-roll hit rolls.
AFTER SHOOTING: Until the end of the phase, your unit is not eligible to start an action.
Dark Pacts

Beseeching the Chaos Gods with fanatical fervour, the profane champions of the Heretic Astartes pray for diabolic boons, promising the vilest of offerings in return for their power.

If your Army Faction is HERETIC ASTARTES, each time a unit with this ability is selected to shoot or fight, it can make a Dark Pact. If it does, it must first take a Leadership test before any effects of that Dark Pact are resolved; if that test is failed, that unit suffers D3 mortal wounds. Then, select one of the following abilities for that unit’s weapons to gain until the end of the phase:
01.06 Leadership Rolls
To make a leadership roll for a unit, its controlling player rolls 2D6: if the result is equal to or greater than one or more of the Ld characteristics in that unit, that roll succeeds. Otherwise, that roll fails. The rule that instructed you to make that leadership roll will describe the effects of that roll succeeding or failing.
01.04.03 As Close As Possible
  • If a rule instructs you to move a model as close as possible to a unit or model you must end that model’s move in base contact with that unit or model if its move is sufficient to do so without breaking any other restrictions (such as coherency), or as close as you can achieve if its move is not sufficient.
  • If a model is already as close as possible to a unit or model when it is instructed to make a move as close as possible towards a unit or model, that model cannot be moved, but still counts as having made the move in question.
  • If a rule instructs you to move a model as close as possible to an objective you must end that model’s move within range of an objective if its move is sufficient to do so without breaking any other restrictions (such as coherency), or as close as you can achieve if its move is not sufficient.
  • If that model is already within range of an objective it can move up to the maximum distance of that move but must end its move still within range of that objective.
EMERGENCY DISEMBARK MOVE18.05
SET-UP DISTANCE: 6"
ELIGIBLE IF: Your unit is embarked within a TRANSPORT model that was just destroyed.
EFFECT: Your unit is set up as described in Set Up (03.02).
BEFORE MOVING: Make a hazard roll for each model in your unit (06.03).
WHILE MOVING: Set up each model in your unit wholly within the set-up distance of that TRANSPORT, and as close as possible to that TRANSPORT. Each model that cannot be set up in this way is destroyed.
AFTER MOVING: Your unit is battle-shocked and, until the end of the turn, it is not eligible to declare a charge.
DEADLY DEMISE24.08

From detonating ammo stores to corrosive innards or frenzied death throes, some targets are deadly even in defeat.

This ability always takes the form Deadly Demise X. Each time a model in this unit is destroyed, after the units embarked within it (if any) have made their emergency disembark moves, roll one D6. On a 6, that model suffers a deadly demise; each unit within 6" of that model suffers a number of mortal wounds denoted by X (if this is a random number, roll separately for each unit within 6").

Example: An Impulsor with a unit of Intercessors embarked within it is destroyed by ranged attacks. First, any unresolved attacks made by the attacking unit are resolved. Then the Intercessors make an emergency disembark move. Then the roll is made for the Deadly Demise ability, and on a 6, that ability is resolved. Finally, the Impulsor is removed from the battlefield.
[LANCE]24.21

With the momentum of a warrior at full-tilt, lance weapons are deadly on the charge.

Each time an attack is made with a [LANCE] weapon, if the attacking model’s unit made a charge move this turn, add 1 to the wound roll.

The SHADOW LEGION and LEGIONES DAEMONICA keywords are used in the following Chaos Daemons datasheets:

[IGNORES COVER]24.18

Some weapons are designed to root enemy formations out of entrenched positions.

Each time an attack is made with an [IGNORES COVER] weapon, the target cannot have the benefit of cover against that attack (13.08), including from rules that give a model or unit the benefit of cover (e.g. Stealth).
SCOUTS24.31

Scouts form the vanguard of many armies. Unnoticed by the enemy, they range ahead of the main force.

This ability always takes the form Scouts X". In the Resolve Pre-battle Abilities step, if every model in a unit has this ability, you can do one of the following:
  • If that unit is in strategic reserves, you can set up that unit anywhere that is wholly within your deployment zone.
  • If that unit is wholly within your deployment zone, it can make a scout move (see below).
  • If that unit is embarked within a DEDICATED TRANSPORT that is wholly within your deployment zone, and if every model embarked within that DEDICATED TRANSPORT has the Scouts ability, that DEDICATED TRANSPORT can make a scout move.

SCOUT MOVE24.32
MAXIMUM DISTANCE: The X" in Scouts X".
ELIGIBLE IF: It is the Resolve Pre-battle Abilities step, and your unit is wholly within your deployment zone.
EFFECT: Your unit moves as described in Moving (03).
AFTER MOVING: Your unit must be more than 8" horizontally from all enemy units.
Surge Move
SURGE MOVE21.02
SET-UP DISTANCE: As stated in the rule allowing this move type.
ELIGIBLE IF: All of the following apply:
  • The rule allowing this move type has been triggered.
  • Your unit is not battle-shocked.
  • Your unit is unengaged.
  • Your unit has not moved this phase.
EFFECT: Your unit moves as described in Moving (03).
BEFORE MOVING: Select the closest enemy unit to be the surge target.
WHILE MOVING:
  • Each model must end its move engaged with the surge target if possible.
  • Each model that cannot end its move engaged with the surge target must end its move as close as possible to the surge target.
AFTER MOVING:
  • Your unit cannot be engaged with one or more enemy units that were not the surge target.
  • Your unit cannot move again this phase.
FALL-BACK MOVE09.07
MAXIMUM DISTANCE: Your unit’s M characteristic.
ELIGIBLE IF: Your unit is engaged.
EFFECT: Your unit moves as described in Moving (03).
BEFORE MOVING: Select fall-back mode:
  • Ordered Retreat: If your unit is not battle-shocked, you can select this mode.
  • Desperate Escape: Otherwise, you must select this mode. Make a hazard roll for each model in your unit (06.03).
WHILE MOVING:
  • Desperate Escape: Each model that is moved can be moved through enemy models.
AFTER MOVING:
FIGHTS FIRST24.13

Those possessed of lightning-fast reactions may strike before the opponent can react.

While every model in a unit has this ability, that unit is a Fights First unit.

See the Resolve Fights First Combats step in the Fight phase (12.04).
ADVANCE MOVE09.06
MAXIMUM DISTANCE: Advance roll + your unit’s M characteristic.
ELIGIBLE IF: Your unit is on the battlefield and unengaged.
EFFECT: Your unit moves as described in Moving (03).
BEFORE MOVING: Make an advance roll by rolling one D6.
AFTER MOVING:

DAEMONIC TERROR

While an enemy unit is within your army’s Shadow of Chaos and/or it is within 6" of one or more BLOODTHIRSTER, GREAT UNCLEAN ONE, KAIROS FATEWEAVER, KEEPER OF SECRETS, LORD OF CHANGE, ROTIGUS, SHALAXI HELBANE or SKARBRAND units from your army, each time that unit takes a Battle-shock test, subtract 1 from that test and, if that test is failed, that enemy unit suffers D3 mortal wounds.

Melancholic Miasma
Plague Legion Detachment

Save Rolls
The opposing player resolves the following sequence:
  1. Create Groups: Divide all models in the target unit into the following groups, as many times as required:
    • One group for each CHARACTER model.
    • One group for all other models with the same W, Sv and InSv characteristics.
  2. Allocation Order: Declare the order in which those groups will have attacks allocated to them, applying all of the following:
    • If a non-CHARACTER group contains a model that has lost one or more wounds, that group must be first in the allocation order.
    • No CHARACTER group can be earlier in the allocation order than a non-CHARACTER group.
    • CHARACTER groups containing a model that has lost one or more wounds must be earlier in the allocation order than CHARACTER groups containing no wounded models.
  3. Make Save Rolls: The opposing player makes one save roll for each attack that wounded the target by rolling one D6.
Fates in Flux
Scintillating Legion Detachment

13.09 Hidden
A model is hidden while all of the following apply to it:
  • That model has the INFANTRY/BEASTS/SWARM keyword and is within a terrain area that contains one or more dense terrain features.
  • That model’s unit did not make one or more ranged attacks during this turn or during the previous turn.
While a model is hidden, it can only be visible to enemy models that are within its detection range. Unless otherwise stated, a model’s detection range is 15".
04.03.04 Shot
When all of the attacks made with a ranged weapon have been resolved, that weapon has shot.

When all of a model’s ranged weapons have shot, that model has shot.

When all models in a unit that are making ranged attacks have resolved all of those attacks, that unit has shot.

If a unit was selected to shoot and none of the models in it make any attacks, it has not shot.
22.03 Psychic Abilities
Abilities tagged with the word ‘Psychic’ are psychic abilities. If a psychic ability causes a model to lose one or more wounds, each of those wounds is said to be inflicted by a psychic attack (this can be important for the triggering of other rules).

The LEGIONES DAEMONICA and MOUNTED keywords are used in the following Chaos Daemons datasheets:

13.06.01 Solid Terrain and Movement
If a terrain feature has the Solid rule (13.11), as dense terrain features do, a model cannot end a move such that any part of it is through any enclosed part of that terrain feature that is 3" or less from ground level – not even through small openings such as doors and windows. This ensures that protruding elements of models cannot be used to circumvent the visibility restrictions of the Solid rule.
13.06 Terrain and Movement
Models can move through different categories of terrain feature as follows:
  • Exposed/Light: All models can move horizontally and vertically through exposed and light terrain features.
  • Dense:
    • INFANTRY/BEASTS/SWARM/MOBILE models can move horizontally through dense terrain features.
    • INFANTRY/BEASTS/SWARM models can move vertically through dense terrain features.
    • Other models can move horizontally through dense terrain features provided that all sections of that terrain feature that the moving model’s base would move through are 2" or less in height. Otherwise, the moving model must move vertically to ascend or descend such sections. They cannot move through ceilings and floors while doing so, and they cannot end that move on any surface of that terrain feature that is not on ground level (see below).

ELIGIBLE IF: All of the following apply to your unit:
  • Unengaged and made an advance move this turn.
  • Has one or more [ASSAULT] weapons.
EFFECT: Your unit shoots as described in Making Attacks (04).
WHILE SHOOTING: You can only select [ASSAULT] weapons to make attacks with.
AFTER SHOOTING: Until the end of the phase, your unit is not eligible to start an action.
[ASSAULT]24.04

Folding stocks, shortened barrels or lightweight construction enable some weapons to be easily fired on the move.

Units containing one or more models with an [ASSAULT] weapon can shoot using assault shooting (10.05).
HEROIC INTERVENTION15.11
1CP
Core Stratagem
Voices raised in furious war cries, your warriors surge forth to meet the enemy’s onslaught head-on.
WHEN: End of your opponent’s Charge phase.

TARGET: One friendly unengaged unit within 12" of one or more enemy units. You can only select a VEHICLE unit if it is a CHARACTER/WALKER unit.

EFFECT: Resolve a charge with your unit (11.02). While doing so, before making the charge roll, you must select one of the following modes:

  • Leap to Defend: When selecting charge targets, you can only select enemy units that made a charge move this phase and are within the maximum distance.

  • Into the Fray:
    • When making the charge roll, if the result is greater than 6 (after modifiers), change it to 6.

Core Stratagem
A hail of fire can drive back advancing foes.
WHEN: End of your opponent’s Movement phase.

TARGET: One friendly unengaged unit (excluding TITANIC units).

EFFECT: Your unit shoots using snap shooting.

The daemons of Slaanesh move with an unsettling grace, dancing through the blades and guns of their foes with a supernatural agility.

Each time a SLAANESH INFANTRY LEGIONES DAEMONICA unit from your army makes a Normal, Advance or Fall Back move, models in that unit can move through other models as if they were not there. When doing so, for each SLAANESH model that moves through one or more enemy models, roll one D6: on a 1-2, that models unit suffers 1 mortal wound.
[SUSTAINED HITS]24.36

Some weapons possess a punishing rate of fire, or can land devastating flurries of blows, tearing the foe apart with relentless ferocity.

This ability always takes the form [SUSTAINED HITS X]. Each time an attack made with a [SUSTAINED HITS] weapon results in a critical hit, that attack results in a number of additional hits on the target as denoted by X.

Example: An attack made with a [SUSTAINED HITS 2] weapon results in a critical hit. That attack therefore hits the target three times (once from the critical hit, and twice more from the [SUSTAINED HITS 2] ability).
[BLAST]24.05

High-explosive rounds can fell several warriors in a single blast, but firing them too close to comrades is unwise.

Each time you gather attack dice for a [BLAST] weapon, add one additional attack dice for every five models that were in the target unit in the Select Targets step (rounding down).

If this ability takes the form [BLAST X], each time you gather attack dice for such a weapon, add X additional attack dice for every five models that were in the target unit in the Select Targets step (rounding down) instead.

Example: If a [BLAST 2] weapon with an A characteristic of 3 targets a unit containing 12 models, you would gather four additional attack dice for that weapon (for a total of seven for that weapon).
CLOSE-QUARTERS SHOOTING10.06
ELIGIBLE IF: All of the following apply to your unit:
  • Engaged and did not make an advance move this turn.
  • Has one or more [CLOSE-QUARTERS] weapons or is a MONSTER/VEHICLE unit.
EFFECT: Your unit shoots as described in Making Attacks (04).
WHILE SHOOTING: Models in your unit can target enemy units your unit is engaged with.
  • MONSTER/VEHICLE Models: Each time a MONSTER/VEHICLE model in your unit makes an attack:
    • Unless that attack is made with a [CLOSE-QUARTERS] weapon and targets a unit your unit is engaged with, subtract 1 from the hit roll.
    • If that attack is made with a [BLAST] weapon, it still cannot target a unit your unit is engaged with.
  • Non-MONSTER/Non-VEHICLE Models: You can only select [CLOSE-QUARTERS] weapons to make attacks with and you can only select enemy units that are engaged with your unit as targets.
AFTER SHOOTING: Until the end of the phase, your unit is not eligible to start an action.
[CLOSE-QUARTERS]24.07

Weapons designed for close-quarters fighting can be wielded effectively even in the press of melee combat.

Units containing one or more models with a [CLOSE-QUARTERS] weapon can shoot using close-quarters shooting (10.06).

When using another shooting type, for each model in that unit (excluding MONSTER/VEHICLE models), you can only select one of the following to make attacks with:
  • One or more of its [CLOSE-QUARTERS] weapons.
  • One or more of its other ranged weapons.
[PISTOL]24.27

Pistols can be wielded even at point-blank range.

[PISTOL] and [CLOSE-QUARTERS] are identical for all rules purposes. See [CLOSE-QUARTERS].

Designer’s Note: [PISTOL] is a pre-existing ability that will be superseded by [CLOSE-QUARTERS] as this edition of Warhammer 40,000 progresses. Both are functionally the same, but the latter is a more suitable term for weapons that function in this way.
